Every year Pantone, the world-renowned authority on color, chooses a color of the year based on looks from the runway, fabric shows, the pop community, and what shoppers like you are buying. For 2012, Pantone choose the Tangerine Tango as the color of the year! This orange-red hue was a definite winner because as the Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, says, “There’s an element of encouragement with orange, it’s building on the ideas of courage and action, that we want to move on to better things.” This bright color is so sophisticated and provides an energy lift to get you through the day!
Back in September for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, this juicy color was seen over the runways in shows like Tommy Hilfiger, Charlotte Ronson, Adrienne Vittadini, and Elie Tarhari. Stars like Beyonce and Eva Longoria (below) rocked their tangerine looks on the red carpet earlier this year. When wearing tangerine, you can layer other orange items together or choose additional warm shades to complete the ultimate tangerine ensemble!
Not only does this color look great in your clothes, it looks fabulous on any skin tone! An orange-red hue can bring out those warm tones in your skin making you glow and look radiant. Whether you wear the color in a blush, nail polish, or lipstick you are sure to look stunning with this seductive color. Though, if you are a little hesitant to try this color, try rocking tangerine accessories, like a handbag, or a necklace, but do not miss out! You can find tangerine pieces right here in the National’s Capital at places like J Crew, Zara, and Forever21.

However, since we are midway through the year, we are anticipating Pantone’s predictions for 2013! Leatrice Eiseman told DailyFinance, “Historically, when the economy is dicey, and people are concerned about how they’re spending their money on big ticket items [such as furniture and carpeting] in particular, they are more inclined to buy neutral colors,” which are more practical and timeless.”
