Odd DC Fashion Tradition: Seeksucker Suits?!
by ATFDC Summer Contributor Kayla Phillips
Recently I heard about the Washington seersucker tradition. Apparently every third Thursday in June everyone in Congress wears seersucker suits. Senator Trent Lott started the tradition in 1996. Personally I like seersucker, but a seersucker suit? Do people really wear seersucker suits? While it is a much lighter fabric that’s perfect for the summer and is a nice break from the ordinary navy or black suit that they wear every other day, I still can’t quite wrap my mind around the look. I have yet to see anyone wearing seersucker, but then again maybe it’s just a Washington trend?
