by ATFDC Guest Contributor Rodney Branche
WALISH GOOSHE! What’s in a name? Sounds a little unusual at first, but when you look a little closer you will find an explosion of serious fashion on a massive, worldly scale.
The adventure begins at 7610A Georgia Avenue NW, Wasington, DC near the border of the ever changing colorful, multicultural world of downtown Silver Spring MD. The first thing that captures you as you walk in the store is atmosphere of high fashion and style, as if you are in one of the great fashion houses in Manhattan. An explosion of textures, shapes and, hues to satisfy his high end customers tastes of expression to project their complex personalities in the way of “high fashion”.
Gregory Taylor is at the helm of ”Walish Gooshe”. As President/CEO, he is in firm control of the direction of the stores personality and distinct image. Greg is also a native Washingtonian from northeast DC, and attended High Point High School in Beltsville MD. After graduation Greg attended the “Art Institute of Philadelphia”. While in “Philly”, he interned and assisted various designers before opening his first office and showroom in 2004, turning heads at the fashion shows on the runway with his blazing styles.
Action, elegance, and taste will always work for the well dressed woman. This brand delivers! The next fashion event on the runway will be the CW’s Fashion Beauty Lifestyle (FBL) Expo at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on October 20th. The event will be sponcered by the CW Network 50, and hosted by the “incredible” Miss”J”, best known from “America’s Next Top Model”. Once again the Capitol City will spring alive with blazing runway movement with fabulous flair.
Mr. Taylor later returned to DC to find a comfortable functioning location which he found in Upper NW on Georgia Ave, in the community of Shepherd Park in October of 2011. ”Class and sophistication” is the basis to his creations at Walish Gooshe, according to Greg. He has also been featured in several newspapers and television programs such as “What Are You Wearing”, on the TLC network , dressing various celebrities like Laila Ali and Sheinele Jones to name a few. The demand is growing for the distinctive style of the talented young designer. For the future other locations are on the drawing board for the thriving brands creations.
When one has a veracious appetite to design marvelous fashion they might likely find the same zeal in choices of interesting food to munch on and fortunately for Greg, it’s not too far away. About three blocks south down Georgia Ave., Greg satisfies his hunger at The Society Lounge 8229 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring MD, a relatively new dining and entertainment venue in Silver Spring MD., where he finds his “Society Wings and Caribbean Rolls”.
This wonderful restaurant, located in the heart of beautiful multicultural downtown Silver Spring is a great testament to the continuing vibrancy of the areas business district. Owned by Jason Miskiri, the creater of many of the themed culinary delights, masterfully orchestrated by Chef Alberto Jofre’s dedicated staff in their well organized kitchen. The Society Lounge’s Motto is “Good Food, Good People, Good Will”. A spacious well planned venue with beautiful contemporary decor, with a comfortable lounge and private space for Special Events.
The restaurants fascinating menu includes American Cuisine merged with Caribbean flair, such as delicious appetizers like the ample Mac & Cheese Balls in Marinara Sauce, Shrimp Croquettes with chopped Chives and Sour cream, or maybe the The Society Wings with the special “jerk” BBQ sauce will help spice up your day!
