My Trip to Payless Shoe Source for Designer Style, Great Prices!

23 Oct My Trip to Payless Shoe Source for Designer Style, Great Prices!

by ATFDC Contributor Dionna Humphrey

I started out my trip to Columbia Heights determined to check out the new Labworks collection at Target, as rumor was they had plus sizes and I was jazzed to check it out. To my dismay, they didn’t carry it in the store! They only had a couple of the designer collaborations in stock with very little to choose from, and frankly I was a bit irked by the effort (if you’ve ever been to that Target on a Sunday, you would sympathize). I thought I was going to have to go back to the drawing board for this week’s post but decided to instead pop into Payless Shoe Source next door.
Boy am I glad I did. Most of the designer collaborations these days are about clothing, and the sizing is limited to ‘straight sizes’. But Payless stepped into the forefront of shoe fashion in the past couple of years by collaborating with designers like Lela Rose, Isabel Toledo and my favorite collaboration to date, Christian Siriano. His Gold collection for Payless is, well, fierce. In my opinion it’s his best so far, so for this weeks post I decided to focus on the best compliment to a woman’s outfit- shoes!

I don’t even know where to start. I loved EVERYTHING. To talk about all 15 options would make this post out of control, so instead I’ll focus on my favorites. The first shoe I saw took my breath away. The Gabriella Pointed Toe pump is damn sexy. I was worried about trying it on because of my post-surgery toe, but I sized up and managed to get it on. It’s still a bit snug so you may need to go a size up in order to be able to walk from the car to the party without crying in pain. It’s a 4-inch heel so it’s not for the shy. It’s THE perfect pump for a night out on the town or for an upcoming holiday party.

Next thing I snagged up was this super chic Arabella Pointed Toe Bow flat. I have always loved a pointy to flat, and to find one that fits, doesn’t gap on the sides when I walk, are affordable AND chic? Needless to say I was kinda giddy. This flat will be perfect with a pair of skinny jeans and a boyfriend sweater, or a pair of nice tailored black pants.

Last but most certainly not least, this Yvonne Platform Wedge was not only hot, but comfy too! Even though the wedge is 4 inches, you can hardly tell because the platform makes it really easy to walk in. This is not an every- day booty, but I would rock this with leggings, skinny jeans, shirt dress—ok well maybe it can be an every day booty! I had to say this was my favorite of all (the comfort level probably had a lot to do with that).

One of the highlights of this collection is that it goes up to size 13! So if you want/need to size up for comfort you can do so. The collection doesn’t come in wide widths like other Payless styles, so if you have a wide foot sizing up could help with the fit. The other thing about the line? It’s so affordable! Every one of the styles is on sale! It made snagging a few pairs not so painful on the wallet.

If you haven’t already, I would give this collection a try. There are quite a few Payless Shoe Source locations in the district, including Columbia Heights, Metro Center, Friendship Heights, & 14th Street NW.
